Little Santa - 'Mee-Ko-Why-Kee'

‘Little Santa – Mee-Ko-Why-Kee’ – everyone can be a Little Santa!

There is a custom in Poland and few other European countries that in the early hours of 6th December little gifts are put under children’s pillows or to their shoes or stockings. Traditionally it’s to remind of a good bishop Nicolas who had also gave many gifts to poor people in his community many years ago. Taking from this beautiful tradition and to start celebrating Christmas spirit of charity and compassion, Midlands Polish Community is organising ‘Little Santa’ - ‘Mee-Ko-Why-Kee’ (in Polish) – an event which aims to bring smiles on children’s faces.

This year our vice-chairperson Wojtek together with some helpers from Midlands Polish Community will be the Little Santa. They will be preparing some little gifts for children who need them the most this Christmas.

We received great support from the Polish Embassy in Dublin as part of global #polonia4neighbours initiative. Private sponsors have also joined in, Polish & Irish grocery shops and other businesses. Midlands Polish Community is also collecting all donations, gifts, sweets or even small toys from anybody who would like to support this initiative. We are waiting for you till 3rd December and on the 5th December they all will be nicely packed and donated as gifts to children who needed them the most in Midlands – via local charity organisations established to support children and families.

If you wish to contact us regarding this initiative, please drop us an email to: contact@polishcommunity.ie or ring our Little Santa – Wojtek on 0863122668.

The aim of this initiative is first of all to start celebration of Christmas season of charity and compassion and to put smiles on children’s faces.
